We were introduced to Antica Enotria by the Italian arm the Diva Network, a distribution partnership representing some of the finest producers from key wine producing regions around the globe.
This boutique producer may be small in size, but is huge locally in reputation. Organic since 1993, it’s owned and managed by father and son team Raffaele and Luigi di Tuccio. In addition to wine, the estate grows olives, artichokes, tomatoes and other vegetables.
Based in Puglia, their vineyard ‘La Contessa Staffa Masseria’ dates back over 300 years with 12 hectares in production. The site includes both old and relatively new vines, with the prozed varietals being those that are native to the local area; Negromaro and Nero di Troia. And it is these two that we’ve focused on in this, their South Africa debut.
Puglia, a gem in the crown of Italian wine production, produces distinctive wines due to its location… in the south of Italy in what forms the heel of the “boot”.
