4G. Le Capitaine 2016 Single Bottle
“The ‘First Growth of South Africa’ produced by legendary winemaker, Denis Dubourdieu.”
The last vintage under the helm of legendary winemaker Denis Dubourdieu in his quest to create the ‘First Growth of the Cape’.
This was one of the most difficult vintages in a long time (dry, shortened season with small berries and early ripening). Professionalism and attentiveness was of utmost importance to yield exceptional quality fruit.
Le Capitaine consists of a blend of Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon selected from 8 different vineyards across the Western Cape.
The grapes were hand-picked, carefully destemmed and meticulously sorted twice prior to gentle manual crushing. The juice was fermented in both French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks for 18 months (partially new oak from 6 different co-ops)
An immensely dense and deep bouquet opens up minute on minute and is enriched with hints of fresh black pepper, smoky eucalyptus and a subtle fleshy appeal.
Extremely juicy, yet not overloaded. It is interwoven with filigree veins of acid supported by incredibly soft tannins.
Drink now or cellar until 2050 or longer.
