Catchpole & Co Pinotage Magnum 2017
“Delicate, refreshing Pinotage from one of the world-leaders in producing wines from this cultivar. Zero oak, 100% refreshment.”
Made for us by the internationally acclaimed team at The Winery of Good Hope, the same team that delivers ultra-premium ‘Frankenstein’ Pinotage under the Radford Dale label. The 2017 is very special. It akes a full departure from wooden barrels, and therefore oak. The desire was to coax the the forefront much of the undiscovered finesse of Pinotage. No oak plays a huge part, but more importantly this wine was crafted in the vineyard. Yields were strictly limited and harvest was carried out at lower ripeness than usually done with this cultivar, allowing us to work with fruit that has less-thick skins and thus lower tannins. Most importantly, however, we have completely moved away from ‘Bordeaux varietal’ extractive-style winemaking (punch-downs, pump-overs, cold soaks, pressings, barrel maturation etc. etc.) and have adapted instead a completely opposite approach -the softest, gentlest ‘intra cellular’ fermentation (aka carbonic maceration), where the berries are left intact and where fermentation actually happens inside the berry.
The result is gentle, refreshing and unlike most Pinotage currently marketed at this price.
An incredibly versatile wine allowing you to chill it slightly for the warmer days or if you would simply like more of the fruity element to shine through. Now bottled as a 1.5L Magnum due to high demand! Snap up a case or two as stock will not last!
