Domaine Magellan Le Fruit Défendu White 2015
Rich, fresh and sublimely delicious. A blend of tropical Muscat Petits Grains freshened-up with Grenache Blanc. Dangerously moreish.
40% Muscat Petits Grains, 60% Grenache Blanc
Muscat Petit Grains is considered the most noble of the ‘Muscat” family of cultivars, and is related to our locally grown Muskat, although considered superior. It’s the earliest ripening varietal in France, and is harvested first at Magellan. Bruno Lafron loves this time of harvest as the pressing of the Muscat fills the winery with intense tropical aromas. Grenache Blanc at 60% freshens the wine, making it extremely drinkable and moreish. All harvesting and selection is done by hand, and always at dawn. The selected fruit is then pressed slowly and at very low pressure. Fermentation is in stainless-steel tanks.
This is a perfect aperitif, especially for hot South African summers, and this wine pairs amazingly well with asparagus dishes.
