Finca La Emperatriz Viñedo Singular Tinto 2017

Officially a “Vinedo Singular” which is the Rioja response to the “Grand Cru” system in France.  The wines have to be from old vineyards with much stricter yields.

The wine must be approved by a blind tasting committee before it can be classified as “Vinedo Singular”

Produced from 50-65 year old vineyards this Tempranillo-led blend is a beautiful example of  a terroir-driven Spanish wine.  This blend is produced from mostly Tempranillo grapes with some Garnacha and Viura from older vines on the estate.

All three varietals were fermented together for 18 months in 60% new French oak and 40% 2^nd fill American oak barrels.

Out of 60 000 hectares in Rioja, only 250 can be called this and Finca La Emperatriz takes up 40 of those hectares

A wonderfully elegant, dry juicy red with fresh nuances and great acidity.
