Description
The vineyards are located at the foothills of the Haweque Mountain. The name “Haweque” is a Khoi word, meaning “the place of murderers”. The mountian gained this name because it was a retreat for the poison arrow-bearing San, who used to raid the Khoi in the valleys below the mountain. The grapes are predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with a fair portion of Cabernet Franc, Alicante Bouchet, Merlot, Petit Verdot and a dash of Tinta Barocca. After manual sorting the grapes were fermented for 3 weeks in stainless steel. Once basket pressed, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels where it matured for 16 months. Radiant red in colour with an impressive bouquet of black fruit, caramel and marzipan. The palate displays savoury complexity and smooth tannins.
