“Fabulous hand-crafted Primitivo, created by an Australian winemaker who married a local boy… and made good.”
This is a blend of bush vine Primitivo with an average age of 40 years, and new vineyard fruit planted in 2005. The new vineyard being planted with cutting from the old. The sites are next to each other, about 3km from the Ionian Sea.
Destemmed directly into small open fermenters. The fements are hand plunged and wine is pressed with the basket press before maturation in old oak barrels. The wine is bottled without filtration.
The wine is fresh and complex, seamless and simply delicious. A perfect example of why Primitivo/Zinfandel is so popular worldwide, and one of the ‘noble grapes’ of Italian wine production.
