Morella Mezzogiorno Bianco 2016
“An exciting adventure into the Italian ‘Fiano’ cultivar, with a hint of Viognier. Hand-crafted and sought-after. Never before in Africa.”
Crafted from low-yeilding bush vines, the Mezzogiorno is a skilful blend of Fiano with a gentle kiss of Viognier. The soils here are red sandy clay with deposits of quartz, which is unusual for this part of the world (Manduria) and gives a wonderful personality to the wine.
The grapes were handpicked into small boxes early in the morning and chilled overnight. Using a vertical basket press, the selected bunches are pressed whole and the juice transferred to a combination of large oak barrels and stainless steel. The result is a fruit-driven and delicate white wine with scrumptious nectarine flavours with a crisp mineral finish. Ideal for hot African summers.
