Natte Valleij Rouge NV
When the winemaker puts those “wild child” barrels that don’t make the master blend, lets them age a few years in the cellar and then puts them all together for a delicious “everyday drinking” wine.
Alex has quickly received wide acclaim for his Cinsault and his premium POW blend. His Hanepoot has raised eye-brows by harking back to a time when elegant dry styles of the variety were consumed by the great and good of Cape society. All three sold by F&V. For the “Rouge”, Alex has explained: “Winemakers are often met by a barrel that doesn’t quit fit the blend one is trying to make. We keep these ‘wild child’ barrels out of the blend, but given time they mature into mature and delicious wines”. It is with these barrels that this blend of Cabernet Sauvginon (39%), Cinsault(18%0, Merlot(13%).Petit Verdot(12%) Cabernet Franc (9%)is made primarily from 2 vintages being 2014 & 2015, and aged in barrel between 14 to 20 months. It’s soft and sumptuous, dark red in colour with fresh red berry fruit and hints of tea-leaf. This is delicious claret-style wine that’s perfect for friends, family and even the In-Laws!
