Description
An exquisite Viognier made in honour of the 47th Roman Emperor Probus; who in the year 281AD was responsible for taking the cultivar on the perilous journey from Dalmatia up to Rhône, where it eventually found its spiritual home of today. Sparing no expense, an extraordinary winemaking process was undertaken. The grapes were 100% whole bunch pressed, crushed and given 1 hour of skin contact – ensuring an intensely aromatic and deliciously round wine, that delivers an incredibly soft lingering finish. An extremely rare clone was used, called VR1 which is the original Viognier clone of the Rhône region. The wine was racked into French oak barrels (1st, 2nd & 3rd fill) for 11 months creating a wine with hints of vanilla and judicious oak maturation overtones.
