Description
The grapes were hand-harvested from 91 year old vines on a single plot called ‘El Valao’. This wine is produced from 100% Mencia grapes which only grow in Spain and Portugal. If you are a fan of lighter aromatic reds such as Pinot Noir and Gamay, then you should definitely give authentic Mencia a try! Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks from which it was matured in French oak for 6 to 8 months. The nose is fresh with notes of toasted smoke and licorice. Medium-bodied with wild berry flavours and subtle notes of balsamic and mint come through on the palate. Overall the wine is incredibly well-structured with great depth. 92 Points – Robert Parker
93 Points – James Suckling
