Founded in 1693, Saxenburg is one of the oldest farms in South Africa.  The Bürer family uprooted their lives in Switzerland and bought the farm in 1989.  After years of renovations Saxenburg is now a new era, world-renowned wine estate.

The terroir is perfect for growing Shiraz and its thanks to this varietal that Saxenburg has become a prominent South African export.  The three Guinea Fowl that adorn the emblem have become symbolic for the philosophy of Saxenburg.  They represent the heart that burns with passion, the mind which keeps the heart in check and lastly – the soul, which binds knowledge and passion together.
