Bodegas Vina Olabarri was the unexpected highlight of a Director’s trip to Rioja. This small, family run estate in some of Rioja’s finest terrior dates back to 1898, and houses the majority of its production in a wine cellar excavated in rock and constructed of sand-stone and oak in the tiny village of Anguciana.
Vina Olabarri specialise in growing the finest Tempranillo grapes… Spain’s noble cultivar, and the very backbone of Riojan reds. The emphasis is on quality here and the majority of production is dedicated to Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines, with painstaking attention to detail.
Only with very exceptional vintages and after identifying the very best barrels of Tempranillo in the cellar is the “Bikandi” label used. Usual production is labelled as “Vina Olabarri”. It is therefore the “best of the best”.
