An exciting addition to the Frogitt & Vonkel international portfolio.

Bierzo lies in North-Western Spain, below the Atlantic ocean and above Northern Portugal.

The region was first cultivated by the Romans 2,000 years ago, and then enthusiastically so by Cistercian monks. The appellation falls on the path of “El Camino de Santiago” (St. James’s Way) which is one of the most famous Christian pilgrimages.

The region fell in to decline and somewhat obscurity following the 19th century’s phylloxera plague. Now within the second decade of an explosive renaissance on Spain’s fine wine scene, the region (tiny at just 4,500 acres of vines) is famous for bucking the trend of big-bodied and tannic wines in favour of finesse and undeniable style.

Vinos Valtuille was born after Dimas Garcia and Isabel Alba, who had been working the vineyards and selling their fruit for decades, decided to build their own winery on one of the hills of Valtuille de Abajo.

Today the estate is run by two of their four children; Elena and Marcos.

Their wines have gathered cult status within Spain and further afield in Europe, and this is their debut in Africa.
