Lacourte Godbillon

Nestled in the quaint Premier Cru village of Ecueil (situated in Montagne de Reims, between Reims and Epernay) is the home of Champagne Lacourte Godbillon. Monsieur Lacourte is a 5th generation winemaker and has been making exquisite hand-made Champagnes
with his wife since the 1960’s. When we first discovered them in 2006, his daughter Geraldine and husband Richard had just taken over the business and embarked on a journey to improve and modernize both the brand image and the wines produced. Since then production has developed from the village co-op and ‘cuverie’ under their family home to a purpose built winery on the same ground. Lacourte Godbillon wines are truly “recoltant manipulant” or “grower Champagnes”, which is rare for the region and denotes wines where the grower has full control over both vineyards and winery. These Champagnes are heavily influenced by Pinot Noir, for which Ecueil is famed, with the obvious exception of their Blanc de Blancs. For us, the true charm of Lacourte Godbillon is being able to present stunning hand- crafted Premier Cru Champagnes at roughly the same price (in SA) of some massive producers who operate on an industrial scale. Why buy mass-produced, when you can have hand-made at the same price?
