Mont Du Toit

Members of the Du Toit family have been wine farming for more than 300 years in the Cape. The French Huguenot founder established the farm near Wellington back in 1691. Stephan Du Toit who has owned Mont Du Toit since 1996 now runs the estate with German vintners, Berndt Philippi and Georg Breuer. Together, they have planted vineyards and constructed cellars; the latter being built into a slope to enable the wine to be moved by gravity. A vaulted, cooled underground cellar houses all of the oak barrels. Today, Mont Du Toit maintains 23 hectares of vineyards ranging from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Mataro, Tinta Barroca and Viognier.
