Description
Semillon is one of the Cape’s true heritage varieties with origins as early as the 17th century. It was so widely planted in the 1800’s that it became known as “groen druif” which translates to green grape. Currently, this varietal accounts for only 2% of the total vineyard plantings in South Africa. The grapes for this wine were harvested from two blocks on the estate. The grapes were hand-picked at dawn to capture freshness and acidity while retaining elegance in the flavour expression. The wine was matured on the lees for 10 months in Burgundian oak barrels. Harmonious combination of green peach and winter melon on the palate complimented by fresh spring blossom and honeysuckle on the nose. Lovely concentration of fruit, a gentle weight and dynamic acidity culminating in a clean and fresh finish.
