Description
This wine pays homage to the 9th century Holy Roman Emperor, Charlemagne who was planting Chardonnay on the Southern slopes of Corton in Burgundy. The grapes were hand picked from Elgin and hand-sorted. Sparing no expense, an extraordinary winemaking process was undertaken,
whereby the grapes were 50% whole bunch pressed and 50% de-stemmed. The juice was fermented ‘wild’ for 25 days. The wine was racked into French oak barrels (1st, 2nd & 3rd fill) for 11 months, creating a wine with hints of white pear and judicious oak maturation overtones. Beautifully gold in the glass with aromas of creamy vanilla and citrus on the nose. Rich and concentrated with mouth-watering appeal thats rounds out to a lingering finish.
