Description

The Cape Ruby is a fortified wine with a bright purple hue. Youthful and vibrant on the nose with lush cherry characteristics on the palate. Medium-bodied and sweet with beautiful mulling spices and hints of oak that paves the way for supple tannins and dark fruit on the palate. The Cape Ruby consists of a blend of different cultivars and vintages from a number of sites in Calitzdorp. The dry semi-desert climate is perfect for growing Portuguese varietals. Mainly Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barocca and Souzao. This fortified wine is made in the same way as its crafted in the Douro Valley in Portugal. The Portuguese varietals were all hand-picked and fermented in traditional open fermenters, known as lagares. Once fortified, the wine was transferred to French oak where it matured for 5 years. Serve as an aperitif or pair with indulgent desserts. Can cellar for up to 10 years.
